Salaam Cup Basketball
The sport of basketball is probably the most popular sport amongst the Muslim community in North America. Practically every city, town or enclave that possesses some members of the Islamic faith has a Masjid (aka Mosque) that has erected at least one or two basketball nets in their parking lots.
This sport has become so popular that Muslim basketball players have made headway in the most professional of all basketball levels - the National Basketball League. Names such as Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwan, Shareef Abdur Rahim and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf are just a few examples of individuals that have made an impact at the pro level.
We all see basketball tournaments come and go - especially for Muslims. But with the benchmark that was set with the Salaam Cup Ball Hockey Tournament, both Safi Habib and Farhan Baig are now ready to embark on a much more daunting task and that is to bring that same entertainment, quality and excitement to this amazingly popular game.
The Salaam Cup Basketball Tournament will showcase the best talent out there in the Muslim community in an event that encompasses an all Muslim-player environment. On topof this, the event will be held at a venue that is first class in order to be synonymous with the standards set out by Salaam Sports.
About Salaam Sports
As sport continues to grow in the streets, tennis courts and outdoor & indoor spaces, a need was identified to allow Muslims to be able to showcase the talents and skills they have developed over the years in a competitive environment.
With this in mind, two brothers in the Toronto area developed the idea to bring about all Muslim men and youth across Canada for a major annual tournament to do just that...prove to everyone that team sports are a major athletic endeavor among the Muslim community.
Both Safi Habib and Farhan Baig have been involved with this sport since childhood and are the engineers for this tournament. Their main objective is to grow the love of sport among the Muslim population in Canada -- and even North America -- to encourage team play in their lifestyles.
In the end, it allows each and every participant of our tournaments to meet with other Muslims, see the talent that has been flourishing among them and basically, to have a great experience in playing a sport that has given them the enjoyment and excitement in their free time.
