3) Humber College Map/Parking:
4) Arrival Time:
Please have your players at the gym at least 45 mins before your first game so they can provide Photo ID to receive a wristband and sign the waiver form. Players will not be able to participate until they register. Game times on the schedule are exact and the clock will start running with or without players ready to go.
Side note: there is massive construction taking place on Finch by Humber College so please leave extra time for your commute.
5) Uniform:
Teams can wear their own uniform as long as everyone has the same jersey or you can wear the Salaam Cup Numbered Tshirts that will be provided to you. We will also have pinnies available for teams that have similar colours etc. If a jersey or uniform depicts vulgarity or is not appropriate in any manner, organizers have the right to ensure the jersey is either not worn or elements are hidden from view.
6) Player Eligibility:
This is a Muslim-only tournament as we want to develop the sport amongst the Muslim community. Any Muslim is allowed regardless of sect or group. There is no minimum number of games a player has to play to be eligible for playoffs - as long as he's on the roster, he's good to go. No players can be added to rosters during the tournament. A player can only play for one team and in one division.
7) SCHEDULING:
6a: Game times and matchups:
Due to the enormous response we get with registered teams in our tournament, it has become almost unfeasible to adhere to special scheduling requests in regard to timing and days for gameplay. Therefore a randomized scheduling system has been put in place. This means, getting your fees in early does not necessarily constitute better scheduling requests. Firstly, a schedule is constructed with just a series of numbers based on the number of teams. Thereafter, a randomized draw is then taken place live online to see which number is assigned to which team and thus, timings and matchups are set up like this to ensure no bias, nor any requests are being taken into consideration. Finally, from this draw, a final schedule is sent out with all team matchups and timings.
7b: 4-Game Protocol (NOT NECESSARY FOR 2025 TOURNAMENT):
At The Salaam Cup, if any division is possesse an ODD NUMBER of teams, the last team to pay their fees in that particular division will have to play 1 EXTRA game to make the schedule work. The way this works is based on the following:
• all teams play the standard 3 games except for this particular team, which will play 4
• after the 4th game, the team representative then will have to choose a number out of a hat in a random draw
• this chosen number will then represent which of the games will NOT COUNT towards their standings
• this game only affects the team doing the draw - their Win or Loss will be eliminated, their points for and points against will also be eliminated
• final playoff seedings will then be determined based on the 3 games that were played
• this protocol ensures ease of schedule construction, prevention of forfeiting, not allowing 'throwing' of games, ensures proper level of play in all games scheduled
8) Playoffs determination:
Standings in tournament dependent in order of preference:
- Total points accumulated
- Head to head record (only applicable between 2 teams that are tied in points, if 3 or more tied, proceed to next criteria below)
- Points Differential
- Points-for scored
- Coin toss
As final reminder: Keep original photo ID (passport, health card with photo, license etc) of yourself as random checks for identity can take place.
Also, this is a Muslim-only tournament. All participants MUST be of the Islamic faith (ie. any sect). Just having a Muslim-sounding name, hanging around Muslims or just thinking about becoming Muslim are not good enough reasons.
